Which sports have higher rates of positive doping tests?

Some sports have higher rate of athletes testing positive for use of performance enhancing drugs. Pharmacists can promote clean sport and medication safety for these sports, which has right rates of positive tests.

If Sports Pharmacists were to target conversations with our individual patient-athletes for drug safety counseling to support the antidoping movement and protect patient health, these may be the sports for which there is greater impact. Weightlifting, body building, athletics, powerlifting, cycling. See below for others.

When a Pharmacist opens the conversation with a patient, it is helpful to be non-judgmental and open to listening, in place of lecturing. Pharmacists can direct athletes to resources for clean sport.

In this report, these aren't just numbers; they represent real cases of people who tested positive while participating in their sport.

Take a look at the bar graph that the International Sports Pharmacists Network created from the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) data published and shared by WADA. This graph only shows sports with ten or more ADRV reported in that sport, after removing the positive test results (AAFs) of cases with medical exemptions and not including pending cases. This represents cases of doping.

Data pulled from this report to create the bar graph.
